Irrigation & Sprinkler System Dubai
A Dubai garden fails within days of a system fault, not weeks. Most irrigation companies here are landscapers, not plumbers, which means the water engineering, backflow prevention, pipe material, pressure sizing, is often treated as an afterthought inside a planting quote rather than handled properly.
We handle the water connection side directly: new system installation, sprinkler and drip repair, and backflow preventer testing, with real pricing and honest diagnosis before any number gets confirmed.

Why This Is Plumbing Work, Not Just Landscaping
Nearly every irrigation company in Dubai is a landscaping business, with irrigation as one line item inside a garden design quote. The water engineering deserves to be handled as its own piece of the job.
A backflow preventer stops irrigation water, along with any fertiliser or pesticide residue it's picked up, from being pulled back into the drinking water supply if mains pressure drops suddenly. It's a required component, not an optional add-on, and it needs correct installation and periodic testing, not just a fitting bolted in during a garden build.
Pipe material and routing is the second place this matters. An irrigation run above ground or through an unshaded section sits under direct Dubai sun for years, and standard PPR pipe degrades under sustained UV exposure at a rate ordinary indoor pipework never experiences, the same failure mode we cover on our PPR & PEX pipe leak repair page. And where a property's pressure isn't sufficient to run a full system, particularly a villa relying on a booster pump for the whole property, the irrigation system's requirements need to be sized into that pump's capacity from the start.
None of this means your landscaper is doing anything wrong. It means the water connection, backflow prevention, and pipe engineering are worth having a plumber handle directly, or at minimum verify, alongside whoever designs the planting.
What's Actually Causing the Fault
A sprinkler or drip system stopping, running unevenly, or leaking almost always traces back to one of these.
A failed valve
A cracked valve body, stuck diaphragm, failed solenoid, or worn O-ring seal. A zone that won't turn on, won't turn off, or leaks constantly at the valve box traces back to one of these.
A broken or clogged sprinkler head
Physical damage from foot traffic or a mower, or mineral buildup from Dubai's hard water clogging the nozzle gradually. Usually the cheapest, fastest fix on this list.
Cracked or damaged pipe
Ground movement, nearby digging, or age. Shows up as a wet patch, a specific zone losing pressure, or a higher water bill with no other cause.
An electrical or wiring fault
A wire connecting the controller to a zone's solenoid breaking underground or shorting out. Usually shows as a single zone that won't activate even though the valve is mechanically fine.
Low pressure at the backflow device
Sometimes a failing system is actually restricted flow further upstream, a partially closed valve, or a supply-side issue affecting the whole property, not just irrigation.
A controller fault
A cleared program, a failed backup battery, or the controller unit itself failing after years outdoors. Affects the whole system at once, not just one zone.
Quick Diagnosis by Symptom
| What you're seeing | Most likely cause |
|---|---|
| One zone won't turn on at all | Electrical/wiring fault, or a stuck valve |
| A zone won't turn off | Stuck-open valve or debris in the valve |
| Water pooling at the valve box | Cracked valve body or worn O-ring seal |
| Weak or uneven spray from a head | Clogged nozzle or physical damage |
| Wet patch on the surface, unexplained | Cracked underground pipe |
| Whole system underperforming, not one zone | Low pressure at the backflow device |
| Nothing runs on schedule, across every zone | Controller fault or failed backup battery |
One zone won't turn on at all
- Most likely cause
- Electrical/wiring fault, or a stuck valve
A zone won't turn off

- Stuck-open valve or debris in the valve
Water pooling at the valve box
- Most likely cause
- Cracked valve body or worn O-ring seal
Weak or uneven spray from a head
- Most likely cause
- Clogged nozzle or physical damage
Wet patch on the surface, unexplained
- Most likely cause
- Cracked underground pipe
Whole system underperforming, not one zone
- Most likely cause
- Low pressure at the backflow device
Nothing runs on schedule, across every zone
- Most likely cause
- Controller fault or failed backup battery
Backflow Prevention, Explained
A backflow preventer sits where an irrigation system connects to the property's water supply, allowing water to flow out to the system while physically blocking it from flowing back into the drinking water line if pressure drops. Irrigation water can pick up fertiliser or pesticide residue, and a sudden pressure drop can pull that water backward into the same pipework serving drinking taps if nothing stops it.
Beyond correct installation, a backflow preventer needs periodic testing to confirm it's still functioning, since a failed device gives no visible warning. If you can't confirm when yours was last tested, that's worth checking alongside any other irrigation work.
TSE Irrigation
Some Dubai communities have access to treated sewage effluent, recycled wastewater treated for irrigation, as an alternative to potable DEWA water, and Dubai Municipality actively encourages it where available since it's significantly cheaper. Worth checking with your community management whether a TSE line reaches your property.
One practical note: TSE-fed community sprinklers are a documented cause of sewage-like odour complaints when running near a property, covered in more depth in our guide to sewage smells in Dubai homes. It doesn't make TSE a bad choice, it just means the smell isn't always what it first appears to be.
Installation Cost
Scales with garden size, zone count, and system complexity.
| Scope | Typical Dubai Price Range |
|---|---|
| Single planting bed, drip only | AED 2,000 - 4,000 |
| Small villa garden (≤50 sqm), basic setup | From AED 1,500 |
| Small yard, sprinklers + drip combined | AED 5,000 - 10,000 |
| Full villa system (sprinklers, drip, controller, zoning) | AED 8,000 - 15,000+ |
Single planting bed, drip only
- Typical Dubai Price Range
- AED 2,000 - 4,000

- AED 5,000 - 10,000
Full villa system (sprinklers, drip, controller, zoning)
- Typical Dubai Price Range
- AED 8,000 - 15,000+
A quote noticeably below these ranges for a comparably sized system is worth asking what was left out, backflow prevention and proper zoning are the two most common corners cut to hit a lower number.
Repair Pricing
Minor repairs, a damaged head, a clogged nozzle, a misconfigured valve, are typically resolved within a standard callout visit. Major repairs, valve replacement, an underground leak, a wiring fault, or backflow preventer replacement, are quoted after inspection, since the same symptom (a zone that won't turn on) can be either a five-minute fix or a genuine excavation depending on the actual cause. We inspect first, then confirm a price, rather than guessing at a flat rate.
How We Work
Assess & design
Garden size, zone requirements, soil conditions, and existing water pressure confirmed before any layout is finalized.
Install or diagnose
New systems: pipework, valves, heads, controller, and backflow preventer fitted and zoned correctly. Repairs: the actual fault confirmed before any part gets replaced.
Pressure test
Every zone run and checked for leaks, even spray, and correct drainage before we consider the job done.
Backflow verification
The backflow preventer tested and confirmed functioning, not just installed and assumed to work.
Handover
Controller programming explained, and a straightforward maintenance note on what to check seasonally.
